And the winner is… Anand !!

Terminó la XXIV Edición del Torneo Intercontinental de Ajedrez de Morelia-Linares 2.007.

Y el campeón fue… Vishy Anand !!.

Le bastó con empatar en la última ronda frente a Ivanchuk para ver como poco a poco su perseguidor, el prodigio noruego Magnus Carlsen iba aflojando en su partida con Peter Leko hasta terminar perdiendo.

Gran remontada final de Morozevich que tras su partida increíble de ayer contra Topalov, se subió hoy al tren del triunfo a costa de un desdibujado Svidler y con ello logró empatar en el segundo lugar con Magnus; mientras Svidler quedó ubicado en la mitad de la tabla junto a Aronian que empató pronto con un desfondado Topalov, farolillo rojo junto a Leko; y con Vasily Ivanchuk a un pasito por encima de ambos.

Ivanchuk-Anand: Ivanchuk planteó una línea no tan conocida contra la Defensa India de Dama que en la jornada de hoy apareció en tres tableros. En la jugada 13 con su movimiento de caballo, Vasily eligió una jugada tranquila, en vez de emplear con 13.e4 el llamado sistema Maroczy. Pero sin embargo sometió a cierta presión al que iba a ser el campeón de este torneo. Con 18.Tc3 el ucranio se dispuso a ocupar la columna "d". Anand se defendió con criterio. Ivanchuk optó por cambiar damas cuando tal vez se podía haber planteado cambiar alfiles en la gran diagonal con 20.Ce1 ó 20.Cd4. Ya en el movimiento 25.e4 Vasily sí logró entrar en el esquema de Maroczy pero no le alcanzó como para lograr algo positivo. Anand encontró un buen plan cambiando caballos y obtuvo una posición hecha de hierro que le dio el ansiado empate y la consecución de su segundo Torneo de Linares, que no lo había logrado desde 1.998.

Leko-Carlsen: Se diría que pronto se logró una posición idónea para el estilo de Peter Leko que le va el juego de maniobras y de mucha estrategia. Se entró en la llamada estructura de los peones colgantes. Leko con 15. Cg4 encontró un plan para simplificar la posición y para presionar por ello sobre el centro de las negras a través de las columnas "c" y "d". Carlsen comenzó a comportarse un punto impreciso y tras 21.Ce4! ya se encontró ante serios problemas. Sus soluciones estaban mucho antes. Magnus no se descompuso y mostró mucho ingenio y resistencia, pero tras 28.g4, Leko logró consolidar su peón de más y con 34.Dd7 por fin optó por activar sus piezas. Magnus cayó en un juego agónico tras 36…Cb5? y justo en la jugada del control (y todavía con un minuto en su reloj) el húngaro desperdició la oportunidad de finiquitar la partida en dos jugadas. La cosa se alargó tras una larga pensada de Leko, pero todo volvió a su cauce natural y el maestro húngaro se hizo con la victoria final. No desluce para nada esta derrota la gran actuación de Magnus Carlsen en todo el torneo. En un par de años estará luchando por la supremacía mundial.

Svidler-Morozevich: Duelo ruso. Svidler se mantuvo muy sólido durante todo el torneo, pero vino a aflojar justo en el final del evento como ya lo hiciera en Wijk aan Zee 2.007. Hoy se puede decir que perdió fácil. En la jugada 14.De3, Svidler pretendió controlar la diagonal g1-a7 y la casilla "d4" pero Morozevich (con mucho ánimo) realizó 14…d4!. Por todo ello, con 14.ab4 ó 14.Cd4 bloqueando el centro directamente, Svidler podría haber tenido otro tipo de partida totalmente diferente. El otro grave error de Peter se produjo en el movimiento 19.Dxc5? cuando con 19.O-O! la partida hubiera quedado pareja y hasta un poquito mejor para el blanco. Svidler con lo jugado, entregó la calidad pero pronto se vio que sin compensación alguna y por ello salió derrotado.

Quisiera terminar la crónica de hoy mostrando tres partidas de tres jugadores tinerfeños que se disputaron en la mañana de hoy en la 7ª ronda del I Torneo Internacional Ciudad de La Laguna. Los tres perdieron. Pero la gran categoría de sus oponentes hizo que inevitablemente así fuese. No obstante los cotejos fueron muy vistosos y seguidamente los ofrezco con los comentarios de Rybka 2.3.

Esta tarde-noche se está celebrando la octava ronda de la que les ofreceré mañana con comentarios la mejor partida de las cuatro mesas; porque la verdad es que ahora mismo me siento como en su día se sintió Nigel Short tras terminar uno de los torneos de Linares.

Homenajeo ahora, para finalizar, al espíritu andaluz con estas "graciosas" palabras del alma-máter de estos torneos, D. Luis Rentero:

"Siempre he querido hacer un torneo a mi gusto, pero por unas causas o por otras, nunca lo he podido realizar.
