Arrancó la UNIVERSIADA

Oh! Mis Islas Canarias. Mi Tenerife querida del alma está de fiesta !!. El mundo del ajedrez también. Linares, el Wimbledon del tablero; continúa fiel a su cita, como siempre. Con estilo andaluz (hoy en pleno S. XXI salpicado con talante mejicano, de Morelia la buena, la ciudad de la brisa). En esta undécima ronda con Magnus Carlsen, en plan divo del mundo del Cine. Recogiendo un Oscar de interpretación con tan sólo 16 años !!. Es la reencarnación del joven Bobby Fischer!!. El GM noruego hoy se tumbó al legendario Vasily Ivanchuk, tres veces campeón del magistral linarense, en gran estilo de ataque. Se acerca peligrosamente a su verdugo en este torneo, el GM hindú Vishy Anand. Sólo medio punto les separan. Y aún quedan tres jugosas rondas. Mañana, el chico (con las piezas negras) se las verá con un tal Veselin Topalov (ex– campeón mundial), el búlgaro de Salamanca. Anand vive en Madrid. Y aquí en Tenerife, tenemos desde ayer a quince Grandes Maestros, a ocho Maestros Internacionales, a tres Maestras Internacionales, a cinco Maestros FIDE y a una Maestra FIDE femenina (hasta llegar a 122 participantes) batiéndose el cobre para dirimir el primer puesto en el 1º Torneo Internacional Ciudad de La Laguna, 2.007. Provienen de variopintos países como Perú, Israel, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Croacia, Polonia, Uzbekistán, Ucrania, Lituania, Armenia, Serbia, Cuba, Inglaterra, Bolivia, Georgia, Letonia y España.

Comienza una andadura trebejística en la "cuna" de la sabiduría de las Islas Canarias. Las Islas afortunadas. Todos los canarios nos sentimos laguneros de pura cepa. La cultura se mama en esta tierra. La Laguna ha sido declarada "Bien Cultural Patrimonio de la Humanidad" por la UNESCO desde el 2 de diciembre de 1.999. Su Universidad es la más antigua de las Islas Canarias, pues sus orígenes en la actividad universitaria en las islas, se remontan al año 1.701, al establecerse un centro de estudios superiores de los religiosos agustinos en esta ciudad . Sus estudiantes hemos tenido tal privilegio, que la llevamos en nuestra alma ya para siempre... .

Este torneo al que en el día de ayer se le dio el pistoletazo de salida está organizado por el Organismo Autónomo de Deportes (O.A.D.) del Ayuntamiento de La Laguna, encabezado por su presidente el sr. José Francisco Pérez, junto con la Federación Insular de Tenerife de Ajedrez dirigida por su emprendedor presidente el sr. Jaime García y por la Entidad pionera del ajedrez tinerfeño, CajaCanarias , representada por el sr. Luis Aguirre. También en el acto inaugural asistieron como invitados de honor el presidente de la Federación Española de ajedrez, el sr. Javier Ochoa y el consejero de Deportes del Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, el sr. Dámaso Arteaga. La intención de los responsables de la cita es convertir al mismo en un referente a nivel nacional e internacional.

Y me consta que en mi casa (donde llevo casi toda mi vida trabajando) La Caja, se están haciendo muchos esfuerzos para conseguirlo. Y todo enfocado hacia la enseñanza de nuestros mejores jugadores. Pues como bien nos recordó esta tarde en Radio ICC , el prestigioso Miguel Illescas, GM español y entrenador del campeón del mundo de ajedrez, Vladimir Kramnik; estos días se ha formalizado la firma de un importante acuerdo de colaboración entre Cajacanarias y la Federación Española de Ajedrez. A través de este acuerdo se potenciarán las actividades de tecnificación de la FEDA y ajedrecistas tinerfeños se beneficiarán de éstas. Antonio Tejera, Director de Relaciones Externas de Cajacanarias, y los mencionados Javier Ochoa, Presidente de la FEDA y Luis Aguirre, Director del Centro de Ajedrez de la Entidad, han sido los responsables encargados de rubricar tan magno acuerdo que va a reforzar al ajedrez tinerfeño sin lugar a dudas. ¡Y qué sea para bien!.

La cita tiene lugar en la Sala de Arte de la Oficina Principal de CajaCanarias , en la célebre plaza de la Concepción lagunera, donde se ubica la iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción y su torre renacentista en piedra, parroquia matriz de la isla y símbolo de la ciudad; con 122 inscritos que representan a un total de 20 países, se celebrará hasta el próximo 11 de marzo, en el que está previsto la clausura. Un día antes, el gran torneo de torneos, el Intercontinental de Morelia-Linares habrá acabado y le da paso al más novel y entusiasta de los torneos de ajedrez españoles. La vida continúa !! pues esta cita tinerfeña será válida para el ránking de la Federación Internacional y para la obtención de los títulos de Maestro Internacional y Gran Maestro y las partidas se disputarán por el sistema "suizo" a nueve rondas. Cabe significar la asistencia de los Grandes Maestros Internacionales Julio Granda ( el eterno agricultor y uno de los talentos más naturales del ajedrez iberoamericano de la historia), Víctor Mikhalevski (el gran teórico de la Defensa India de Rey de http://www.ChessPublishing.com) y Vasil Spasov (de la Escuela de la que salió Veselin Topalov), peruano, israelí y búlgaro, respectivamente. También es obligado citar al ruso Vladimir Epishin, que fuera entrenador del gran Anatoly Kárpov, en su glorioso reinado de comienzo de los ochenta o al GM bosnio Bojan Kurajica (afincado en Tenerife), que fuera campeón mundial juvenil y que tiene en su palmarés haberse medido a legendarias figuras del tablero como Botvinnik, Bronstein, Smyslov, Tal, Petrosian, Spassky, Fischer, Kárpov, Kaspárov, Topalov o Krámnik. Ayer el jugador local, Cristián Rodríguez Fernández hizo la gesta de la jornada y arrancó unas meritorias tablas a este prestigioso rival bosnio. Como Maestros Internacionales acudirán el polaco Jerzy Slaby, el inglés Jones Gawain y el boliviano Oswaldo Zambrana. Y en cuanto a ajedrecistas españoles, tomarán parte el Gran Maestro Internacional José Luis Fernández García (muchas veces olímpico, capitán nacional y también seleccionador español) los tinerfeños Maestros Internacionales Adalberto Villavicencio (el mejor jugador isleño de la historia) y Dafnae Trujillo (también la mejor jugadora tinerfeña, sin discusión); y el jovenzuelo tinerfeño Jorge Cabrera (el Carlsen de Tenerife!), a punto de convertirse en Maestro FIDE y quien acabó, recientemente, en el puesto 12 en un Torneo Internacional celebrado en Cannes – Francia.

Volviendo a Linares y su ronda undécima, tendríamos que decir que el jovencito Carlsen ni se despeinó. Llegué a casa sobre las 15,10 h y tan sólo con 40 minutos de reloj transcurridos, ya en el ICC a la altura de la jugada 20 se plasmaba el plan de ataque de las blancas, como así ocurrió. La partida había comenzado por una Defensa Grunfeld de la que Ivanchuk (como con tantas otras aperturas) es un especialista. Carlsen no rehuyó el juego teórico de las variantes principales. De hecho ya había jugado parecido en Wijk aan Zee 2.007 frente a Navara. Las blancas se hicieron fuerte en el centro e iniciaron rápidamente un ataque a la bayoneta en el flanco de rey. Con 17.e5, Magnus cerró el centro y obtuvo una partida muy cómoda. Se cambiaron torres, pero la presión no disminuyó para Vasily. Carlsen optó por una maniobra sólida que le reportó la ganancia de una pieza por dos peones y se impuso con una sobriedad pasmosa.

La partida Morozevich-Anand, no tuvo demasiada historia. Tras una Defensa India de Dama con 5. Db3, Anand replicó con un rápido …d5 y tuvo sobre la marcha la oportunidad de jugar también …c5, completando el desarrollo en el flanco de dama. Tras 14…Cd5, para Illescas en Radio ICC, se hacía necesario capturar en "d5" con el caballo blanco, pero Morozevich optó por 15.Cb5, dándole la oportunidad a Vishy de obtener una cómoda posición que le llevó al empate final.

Svidler-Topalov , se desarrolló como casi cada vez que Topalov juega con las negras, bajo los cauces de la Defensa Siciliana, Ataque Inglés. Se siguió por el mismo camino que la partida Karjakin-Topalov de Wijk aan Zee, 2.007, con la jugada 8…h5 de Topalov como caballo de batalla. Continuó con una estrategia clásica, con las blancas presionando por el centro y las negras por el flanco de dama, donde se colocaba el rey enemigo. Pareció que Topalov podía progresar, hasta que se vió sobre el tablero la jugada 21.Ac4! de Svidler (un movimiento bueno en ataque y en defensa) como matizó Miguel Illescas. Tras el cambio preceptivo en b3, Svidler, optó por tomar arriesgadamente con el peón "c". Veselin reaccionó en el centro y para recuperar un peón tuvo que contentarse con realizar ciertos cambios. Posteriormente, Topalov entregó un peón central, pero Svidler no quiso saber nada del tema, porque quedaba netamente inferior. El ruso se las arregló para forzar el empate por jaque continuo.

Y por último la partida que terminó más tarde fue la disputada entre Aronian y Leko. Se traspuso a una apertura inglesa, variante simétrica con una estructura Maroczy-erizo. Aronian tras el planteo obtuvo ligera ventaja, con la pareja de alfiles y mayoría de peones en el flanco de dama. Sin embargo en la jugada 23.Cc3? el jugador armenio no aceptó con la mejor respuesta, que en palabras de Illescas era continuar con el plan a3 seguido de b4. Tras un golpe táctico Leko pudo entrar en la séptima fila con consecuencias muy favorables a priori para sus intereses. Entonces Aronian optó por jugar pasivo y tomó con su alfil en e5 (en lugar de la prosaica 26.Aa3), pero le dio resultados prácticos. En el movimiento 29…Te2?!, Leko fue imprudente y de haber preparado un poco más la posición primero con …a5 y …h5, como magistralmente señaló Miguel Illescas, hubiera logrado una ventaja estratégica de las piezas negras con posibilidades de cristalizarla en victoria. Al comerse el húngaro rápidamente el peón, Aronian se inspiró en defensa y jugando muy activo obtuvo posibilidades que le llevaron al empate final.

El torneo ya es claramente cosa de dos !!.

Y en la segunda ronda de La Laguna, permítanme que lo bautice como "La Universiada", el tinerfeño Lucas Mendoza logró arrancarle unas meritorias tablas al GM israelí Victor Mikhalevsky. Fue una Defensa Grunfeld. El GM innovó con una línea secundaria con ánimos de sorprender a su rival. Mendoza no se descompuso. Cambió alfiles de casillas blancas, dominó el centro, se enrocó y ante la tentativa de complicar la lucha que dispuso sobre el tablero su eminente rival tras jugar 16…f5, el Maestro FIDE, según observó Rybka 2.3, pudo haber maniobrado para quedarse con una ventaja duradera por la presencia de un peligroso peón pasado para las piezas blancas. No siguió el jugador canario de aquel modo, tampoco quiso cambiar damas, algo muy típico de su belicoso estilo y a partir de ahí, el GM con una imponente entrada de su torre por la séptima fila, se las prometía muy felices, de haber logrado acertar con el golpe decisivo que le hubiera dejado en franca ventaja. Permitió que las blancas se escurrieran y haciendo la partida muy interesante, Mendoza de nuevo, no acertó con su mejor continuación, que entonces le hubiera reportado algo de ventaja. Tomó directamente en "e7" con su dama en vez de avanzar su peoncito hacia "d6" y de nuevo le entregó la iniciativa a las piezas negras, que de haber cambiado damas se hubieran quedado con una ligera ventaja. No fue así y tras una serie de intercambio de golpes por ambos bandos, se llegó a un final técnicamente igualado, que hizo no obstante que el GM israelí lo apurara hasta entrar en un final de torres de dos peones contra uno en el mismo flanco, que no se pudo forzar.
